December 13, 2018 - To South Jersey for Breakfast

This weekend's forecasted weather was dismal, so Bruce R. suggested flying on Thursday.  It sounded good to me, so I took the day off, and went flying.  Here I am winging across the Chesapeake Bay to Easton Airport.   A broken layer at 4,500 didn't mar good flying conditions.

Parked in front of Bruce's hangar at Easton.  I had the airport to myself coming in.

Bruce's new hangar, featuring electric bi-fold doors and most importantly, bird free!

Soon we were headed east northeast towards South Jersey Airport (KVAY).

Safe on deck at South Jersey Airport in front of the FBO building and restaurant.

After a delicious breakfast, we headed over to the Air Victory Museum next door.

A retired, and very tired looking, E-2C Hawkeye sits outside.

Another retired warrior, the big H-53 Sea Stallion helicopter sits out back.

This massive heavy-lift helicopter has two jet engines.

Insice the museum is a Messerschmidt 109G replica.

The replica is made of wood.   Notice the left wing is missing.

There is the left wing laying on the ground there.

Bruce checking out the big F-14 Tomcat's cockpit.

A good shot of the museum's interior.  Naval Air seems to be in the majority at this museum, with an F-14 Tomcat, an F-4 Phantom, an A-7 Corsair II, and an A-4 Skyhawk on hand.

A colorful A-7 Corsair.

The big Tomcat.

There were hundreds of beautifully done plastic models displayed in glass display cases throughout the museum.

F-117, F-15 Eagle, F-35 and F-22 Raptor at bottom.

Even the mighty P-3 Orion was on hand.

And the big P-5M Marlin that my Dad flew out of Bermuda in the late 50s.

Heading back home.  We practiced some formation work once over the Delmarva peninsula, then did a nifty break to landing at Easton.

After topping off at Easton, I flew home just before it got dark.

You can see the lights of all the cars heading east for home on the Eastern Shore, crossing the Bay Bridge on Highway 50.

A slightly different look.

I had a pretty view crossing the Bay heading home.

A great aviation day.  The day seems short when it gets dark at 5PM.

Afterwards, I spent another three hours helping build an RV-10.
